ChatGPT or Claude vs Managed Contractor Marketing: What Are You Actually Buying?
By the Mad Giant team
Start with the task you want off your plate
If you need help turning a rough idea into a headline, a general AI assistant can be useful. Give it your actual service, area, offer and approved facts. Review the result for invented credentials, pricing, availability and promises. A plausible sentence is not evidence about your business.
A managed service is a different purchase: responsibility for agreed execution. That can include preparing campaign assets, checking the destination, coordinating approvals, launching within a budget and reviewing results. AI can assist that work, but does not remove the need for an accountable person.
What remains your responsibility in a DIY workflow
Someone must connect the correct business accounts, choose a campaign objective, implement a form or landing page, test the enquiry route and watch spending. That person also needs to distinguish a submitted form from a reachable customer and a booked job. Copy generation does not perform those tasks merely because the draft looks finished.
DIY is a sensible choice when you have time to learn the platform, can check results consistently and prefer direct control. Start with one service and one conversion goal. Record your hours as well as subscription and media costs. Repeatedly generating new copy is less useful than fixing a broken form or calling an existing enquiry.
What to ask a managed provider
- What assets, destinations and monthly revisions are included?
- Who approves advertising and budget changes?
- Which accounts remain yours, and what happens when you leave?
- Are media, software, location and usage fees separate?
- Who contacts the lead, and which outcomes can the reporting actually verify?
Ask to see a sample workflow, with sample data clearly labelled. Treat claims of better performance as unproven unless there is relevant, verifiable evidence. Neither a polished dashboard nor an AI label guarantees demand.
